Autoplay - how to abolish this monstrosity?

This tedious thing keeps popping up no matter what I do. I have gone through all the painful options (why can't you just do
everything, hit Apply then its done I wonder???) and it still doesn't remember anything. Is there any way of abolishing this
nuisance? When I plug something in I want the computer to do absolutely nothing. Not to try to think for me. Not to try to guess.
Because its always wrong.

I have no idea what your "painful options" are and I suspect that nobody
else does either. There are many articles online which purport to do what
you ask. The first example I found was:
