automaticly create OU when import users

Hi there,

I'm working on win2003 and exported all users and OU into a txt file ....
when I delete a OU ... say for example Administration ... and then try to
import the text file a error is displayed. I just don't seem to be able to
create OU's as well as users when importing all the data.

In the exported file I do see all the data, but win2003 just wants all the
necessary OU to be there when you import all the users back.

Is there a way to make this possible???
It would my my life a whole lot easier.

Cheers

Blaat,

You deleted the OU into which you wanted to import the user account objects?
I might suggest that you first create the OU ( or container, whatever the
case might be ) and then try to bring the user account objects into that.
You see, one of the attributers of the user account object is the DN (
Distinguished name ) and that gives you 'the path' to where the user account
object is located. An example would be "DN: CN=Cary
Shultz,OU=Administration,OU=Staff,DC=yourdomain,DC=com". As you can see,
the user account object is located in the OU 'Administration, which itself
is a sub-OU to the OU 'Staff'. If either of these OUs does not exist - or
do not exist in the hierarchy defined in the DN - then you will have a
problem.

I might suggest that you first create the OU structure and then import the
user account objects.

BTW - what are you using to do this?

HTH,

Cary
