Automatically move email after certain time period

I am currently running Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP-1.

I would like to move messages (from my inbox), that are older than a
certain time frame, automatically to different folders base upon who
they are from. For instance, Joe Blow sent me an email 2 weeks ago,
and it's been read, but it's still in my inbox. Can I make outlook
move that message to a different folder named "Joe Blow" after a
specified time has past. I know this is probably called archiving, but
I have never quite understood how to control the location and timing
of archives?.

Does my question make sense? Any ideas? I normally do this manually.
After a certain time, I sort the messages by Sender, and move them to
folders. I also know that I can set up a rule, that when they come in,
they go to their appropriate folders. Problem is, I want them to
remain in my inbox for about 2 weeks, and then go to those folders
automatically. Is this possible?

Thank you.

This seems an appropriate use of archives, however, you can't have more than
one archive folder associated with your Inbox (although each folder can have
its own distinct archive).

I can't think of a way to accomplish what you want. The closest I can get
is to create rules that will move the messages to the specifc folders when
they arrive (i.e., all messages from "Joe Blow" get moved to a "Joe Blow"
folder when they arrive) and then archive those folders, either into a
common archive file or into a folder-specific archive file.

Keep in mind that archiving does not act on the received date, but on the
modified date, which can opften be newer that the received date. For
example, if you were to move that two-week-old message today, the modified
date would be today and the message wouldn't not be archived for another two
weeks, provided you did not touch it again.

Thanks, Brian. That's what I was afraid of...that it can't be done
exactly as I wanted. I appreciate you taking the time to take a look
and answer back.
