There are several from letters that I use for work that I would like to not have to edit so much every time. First off, I don't know whether I should create a document or template. Secondly, I would like the current date to be inserted without me having to go to the toorbar. I didn't quite understand the TIME CODE fields options. Third, would it be possible for say, where I put the address, for it to grab the name from the address and automatically insert it into the greeting

Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide.

Create a template with the datefield you want. It should be a CreateDate
field.

Create the template.

Insert a date field formatted the way you want where you want it in your
documents.

Press Alt-F9 to toggle field codes. Change the Date (or Time) field to a
CreateDate field. Press F9 and then Alt-F9.

Save your template. When you create new documents based on the template, the
current date will automatically show up.

For more on the different kinds of templates and locations of templates
folders see <URL: http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm>.

See <URL: http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm> for information on the
different kinds of datefields and how to format them.

I have a followup question: With the method below, will the date/time change
to the current system date/time every time I reopen the doc or will it
maintain the original document creation date?

Just curious...

Skip

It will maintain the original document creation date. If placed in a
template that is used to create other documents, it will show the date of
the _document_ creation.

You may want to take a look at the legal toolbars and DateLoader templates
that can be downloaded from http://addbalance.com/word/download.htm. They
have such date fields as AutoText available by menu or keyboard shortcut.

A CREATEDATE field always retains the date of creation of the document or
template it is in. A document created from a template containing a
CREATEDATE field will show the date the *document* was created.
