Automatically Color Autoshape and Autoshape Naming

Hello All,

I have a group of autoshapes (ovals) in Excel which are colored red, amber,
and green. I’m working with a previously created macro that automatically
colors the shapes based on cells in another sheet.

The macro looks up the names of the autoshapes and then matches the names to
cells in the other sheet. (Note: the shapes are given names of cell
numbers…for example, the shapes are called E51, E52, E53, etc).

Then the macro looks up the value in the cells for red, amber, and
green…then it automatically colors the shapes based on the value.

My questions:

Usually, it’s impossible to name any object in Excel the same name as a cell
number. However, the person who created this spreadsheet was able to do that
(i.e. an autoshape named E51). Is there a macro that can be written to trick
Excel to name an autoshape with a cell number?

OR

Is there an existing Excel function that lets you name an autoshape a cell
number?

Thanks in advance!
