Automatic updates take too long. Other options?

I am using a new computer with XPHome SP2 installed. My only connection to
the internet is with a cell phone modem, which works fine for email and some
slow browsing . (The computer is on a boat that I work on. There is no
cable or phone service other than my cell phone.)

The latest XP security update would take at least 30 hours for me to
download, based on how long it took to download 3 percent of it a few days
ago. I don't want to invest in 30 hours of cell phone minutes to get these
updates. I have turned off the autoupdate feature for now, because it causes
my already slow connection to creep along as it tries to download this huge
update.

Any suggestions as to an alternate method of updating this computer?

Thanks.

Find the KB number(s) of the update(s). Then when you have access to
another computer with a CD Burner and Internet access, simply burn the
update(s) to the CD. To get the update(s) manually, all you have to do
is type http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=xxxxxx. Where xxxxxx is the
KB number(s) of the update(s).

Go directly to Windows Update and select the updates and choose to install -
this will override the auto install and won't use BITS to download the
update(s).
