automatic update

I keep getting the same update everyday. I have tried to change the setting
to recieve updates, but I keep getting the same update. it says you have
successfully updated, but keeps coming back the same day several times. how
do I stop this everyday update and why is the same update appearing if it has
been installed several times.

It doesnt happin to be MSXML 4.0 Security Update (kb927978)? and if so does
any one have any ideas i called compaq and they was even unable to help me.

Its (kb927779) Security update for windows xp. it keeps installing several
times a day, every day.

Mary,

Download and SAVE the update from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...65-AEF4-489F-B917-812D9F7687BD&displaylang=en
When the download is finished close the browser and any other open programs.
Restart the system.
Now run WindowsXP-KB927779-x86-ENU.exe
Hopefully, it *should* install now.
If not, please open the KB927779.log that is located in the WINDOWS
directory [folder]

Scroll down towards the bottom for the most recent entry. It will have
the date and time in this format - 2007/02/13 12:14:49.337 (local)

Copy&paste that section of the log *only* into your reply and hopefully
we'll be able to figure out why the update fails to install.
