Automatic update fails

I get a message that I have updates ready for my computer and installation
is started but after a while I get the message "Updates were unable to be
successfully installed"
It concerns VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter and the update ready message
keeps popping up endlessly.
Please help me to solve the problem.

Delete the TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES and the Cookies. Delete the
contents in TEMP and restart Windows. Retry upgrading your PC now.
If this does not help, you may want to post this to
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate.
