Automatic shutdown process on IBM ThankPad i1400

After I upgraded to XP from 98SE, on an IBM ThinkPad i1400-
2611-412, the computer no longer shuts down automatically
when using the Start -> Shut Down process. What needs to
be done to have the computer automatically shutdown when
using the Start -> Shutdown process?

NEVER upgrade from any OS... always do a clean install of
XP... Sorry, but it's true... back up your data and go
from there...
