automatic reloads

I have a homepage with automatic reload, which I can time-vary at will.
Suddenly, and very irritating, the reload places the home page "on top". That
is, if I am writing something in words or visiting some other page my own
homepage when reloading knocks that other page into background. How come?
Using XP.
