Automatic numbering of documents shared on server

I have created a Word Template Document with a
macro added to allow unique numbering. This works ok
if setup on my pc, but when I copy this template and
settings.txt file to a users server, it allows the
automatic input of the document but does not follow the
copde in the macro to use the settings.txt file held on
the server,
What I would like to do is place
this template on a shared folder to allow multiple
users to create a new document using the same template.
Does any body know how this can be done

You should to be sure in macro about txt file placement.
