I have a workbook that I have been using for quite sometime. As of just today
when I open the workbook it ask me if I want to update automatic links. The
problem is I don't have any links in the workbook, so I don't understand why
it would ask. When I click yes it takes me to a dialog box that say the link
is not valid, but the name of file is a valid workbook I have saved in a
folder. Any Thoughts.

Did you paste anything from the file which you see?

Do you have many formulas in the sheet? In a copy of your file, try copying
the whole sheet and PASTE SPECIAL|Values. If the problem goes away then you
need to find the cell which has a reference to that file.

I did not paste anything from a diffrent file. I do have many formulas, but
all are within the same workbook. Is there a way to trace where the reference
file that the automatic link message is referring to?

Choose Tools|Find Links
Search for .XLS (default) or enter the file name which is giving you the
problem
Once found you will be shown the address and an option to delete.
choose YES to delete
