Automatic keyboard layout selection

Frederik Fix

Hi,
I've got a Dell laptop with a German keyboard and a
docking station to which I've connected a US USB
keyboard. My problem is that half of the time I've got
the wrong keyboard layout selected. Is it possible to
associate a keyboard layout with a particular keyboard?
Or alternatively is it somehow possible to link the
active keyboard layout to the docking state?

Thanks in advance,
Frederik

Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages>Details>Text Services
and Input Languages>Settings>Preferences offers the Language Bar and
shortcuts allowing you to quickly switch between keyboard layouts.

I don't think it is, other than by having separate hardware profiles and
a logon to go with each, which is overkill. The best way is probably at
Regional and Language Options - Language - Details to click Key Settings
and set a pair of hot key combinations, one for each keyboard, so you
can get in the habit of hitting the appropriate one on changing
keyboards
