I have a desktop computer with Windows XP Home Edition and SP-2. Until last
week the hibernation and stand-by function worked perfectly. Now, only the
manual hibernation and stand-by is possible; further it is not possible to
create a new power scheme.
Has anybody a idea what I have done wrong?

The firs thing that you should ask yourself then is:
What did I do since it was working ?
Any new program added or patch
Any setting changes ?

Try a system restore to a date last week when it was working. Go to
Start | Help and Support. Click on System restore on the menu line.

You might want to try this:
Go to the following web site and download the registry fix
listed on the right hand side of line # 204, Restore Power
Schemes/Configurations

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Good luck

I did the registry-fix (nice site!), did a system restore and I don't
remember what I have done of late. Nothing fixes the problem!
Thank you all for taking the time to help me.
May be there are other suggestions.
For heavens' sake, why are there so many problems with hibernation?
