Does the following extract from WinXP News help?
Move the Default Document Location

Several readers have written to ask if there's a way to change the default
document storage location (My Documents). The usual scenario: you have two
or more partitions, and you want to save all your data, such as your
documents and pictures, to a different partition than the one on which the
operating system is installed. By default, most programs save data to the My
Documents folder, which is located in Documents and Settings\[user name]\My
Documents on the systemroot partition (in which the OS is installed).

There are a few ways to change the location to which the My Documents
shortcut points. The first is by editing the HKEY CURRENT
USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
key of the Registry. You double click Personal and change the value to the
new path. But this is the hard way and we only encourage it for people who
like playing with the Registry.

Another way is to right click the My Documents folder on the Desktop and
select Properties, then on the Target tab, click Move and browse to the
folder on D: where you want to store your documents.

If your XP Pro computer belongs to a Windows domain, you can also use a
Group Policy Object (GPO) to configure Folder Redirection - a neat feature
for business networks, but probably not available to you on your home
computer.

Finally, if all else fails, you probably know that most applications can be
configured individually to save their documents to a specific location. For
example, in Word you click Tools | Options, click the File Locations tab,
select Documents and then the Modify button. Hope this helps! e,
