Using Windows XP and when I double click on a folder, instead of opening the
folder I get a search window with the search companion. How do I "turn off"
this automatic search companion? I want to be able to double click "My
Documents", for example and open the folder, not go into search mode. The
only way I can open the folder is to right click and choose "Open" which is
about my fifth option.

This happens if you alter the 'File Folder' context entries in the 'File
Types' dialog.

Click [Start] [Run] and type "REGSVR32 /i SHELL32"

David Candy's fix works ! Just be sure to type the string of letters and
spaces EXACTLY as he did. Note there is a space after REGSVR32 (right before
the "/")
AND there is a space between i and SHELL32 after the "/"
