automatic date icon in H&F producing an incorrect date

An incorrect date appeared when clicking on the automatic date icon in the
toolbar. Does someone know how to get it to produce the right date?
 
Is your computer clock set to the correct date? Is Word maybe
inserting the "Create Date" instead of the current date?
 
Thank you for that. I teach students and one student in particular got a
date of 1601, so next time the student is in I will look at what you suggest.
If it doesnt work, I shall return!!
