Automatic copy from a formfield to a field in the Footer

I have a Report.dot template created in Word2000. The report may expand on
several pages depending on the data entered. Works fine.

Now I have created a Footer including Page x of y pages via Auto text. Works
fine too.

Each report has a number, which is placed in a Formfield. I would like to
have this number copied to the Footer automatic.

Any ideas??

Regards

Jorgen

Hi jnm,

Put a REF field in the footer that refers to your formfield's bookmark, and
set the formfield's properties to 'calculate on exit'.

Cheers

REF fields in the header/footer don't update in a protected document, but a
StyleRef field will work just fine; see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/StyleRef.htm.

I actually find StyleRef fields very easy to use (since you can use
character styles) and very versatile.

Yes, but they can have a terrible impact on performance. Perhaps not so much
of an issue in a form, though, since forms don't tend to have very many
pages.

Yes, I recall Jonathan's comments on that. I've used them in documents of
several hundred pages, but they never have too far back to go.
