Automatic Caption Renumbering

How can I change the default behavior of captions from auto-renumber to
manual renumber. I don't want them to renumber every time that I add a new
one.
 
If you select them and then use Ctrl+Shift+F9, they will be converted to
ordinary text and then will not update.
