Automatic Calculation

Louise

Hi all

In Excel 97, does anybody know why the setting for
Calculation - Automatic or Manual changes on its own?? A
colleague of mine has Excel 97 and every so often, he has
to keep changing the setting back to Automatic because it
reverts to Manual of its own accord.

Can anybody help with this and advise me how to prevent
it?

Thank you.

Louise

Hi Louise,

excel takes its initial calculation setting from the first workbook opened,
so if you open a manual workbook and then open an automatic one, excel will
still be in manual.

Thanks for your reply, however, all the workbooks my
colleague has were all Automatic because he didn't know
how to change it to Manual. That's what I mean - it's
happened on its own. It's not always to the same
workbooks and it doesn't happen to everything he opens -
just ocassionally.

Any more ideas?

Louise

Hi Louise,

Well the only possible causes I can think of are:

- someone changed it from Auto to Manual using
Tools-->Options-->Calculatioon
- a macro or an addin changed it from Auto to Manual and forgot to change it
back
- your colleague has access to a workbook that has been saved in manual but
he thinks its in automatic.

Charles

If you share workbooks between users, maybe it's someone else changing the
calculation mode.

When your colleague opens up that workbook first, he gets stuck by the
preference of that other user.
