Automatic Alphabetizing Files and Folders

Hi All,

I hope this is the forum in which to ask: Why aren't my folders and files
being saved in alphabetic order any longer and how do I get this to happen??
I have looked everywhere and can't find the answer. I'm certain it's a
simple maneuver but still can't do it!

Thank you.

As you didn't indicate, I'm going to assume you are using Windows XP, but
this should work for other Windows OSes.

When you have a folder open, you can organize the files inside in many
different ways: alphabetically, by date, by file type, etc. You can change
the organizational method by clicking on the title of a column. For example,
to arrange alphabetically, click on the word "Name" at the top of the column
containing filenames.

Thank you, Dougie,

Yes, Windows XP. You know, NOTHING is automatically alphabetizing: My
Favorites list isn't, my Address Book isn't. Before a Dell tech wiped my
drives C and D clean and I had to reinstall EVERYTHING all these things were
automatically being alphabetized before he did this. I don't know how to get
My Favorites to do this nor my address book. Funny thing is, the column (on
right side) shows files and folders are being alphabetized as it shows My
Favorites are, etc. But, in the "real PC world" nothing is being
alphabetized -- the lists just show they are but they aren't. I hope I'm
making sense.

Thanks again!

You can change the sort order of any file list Window in Windows Explorer by
selecting details view and clicking the column header above the column you
wish to sort on - presumably 'Name' Click again to reverse the sort order.
