Automated System Recovery help

I recently downloaded and installed the latest critical patch. The system
needed to be rebooted after the install of this patch. When the system came
back to the windows interface, I was greeted with the dialogue box that the
log on msgina.dll was missing. Contact system admin or reinstall thie .dll
I attempted to use the Automated System Recovery floppy to correct the
issue. Instead of repairing my os, the use of the ASR proceeded to format
my hard-drive with NO INPUT from me/user. There was no "Are you sure you
want to do this" confirmation. Why did this happen? How is the ASR feature
useful?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't ASR mean "Audio Streaming Recorder"? are
you using this program? the "no input" signals probably indicated that you
did not select a sound card source to use with this audio streaming recorder
software.. probably from creative labs. I found this information on the
following website

http://www.soundblaster.com/resources/read.asp?articleid=64

hope this helped

That is how ASR works. ASR is not just a floppy, it is a complete backup of the system drive (saved to another HDD, tape or floppies AND a floppy). ASR does restore the computer to the state that it was in when the .bkf file and floppy were created. ASR is initiated by the user when booting from the XP CD and pressing F2, that is input.

Why didn't you try system restore first?
