Again and again this is happening to me on this one web
site.

This is happening on my computer, not the server because
I have not published back to my hard drive. I had to
completely rebuild the site last week because it had
destroyed the site so badly that I could only resort to a
back up that was several months old. When this happens, I
am unable to open the page with FrontPage.
This has now occurred three times in the past 5 months.
In July 2003 using FP2002 and Win XP Pro. Last week using
FP2003 and Win XP Pro.

Please look at the source at:
http://www.marinachamber.com/

This is what is seen in the source by the thousands:

An update on the above post.

When I remove the offending entries from a page. Close
the page. Close FrontPage. The open FrontPage, open the
page, the offending entries are again on the page.

When I don't make any changes to the page, but just close
it, close FrontPage. Then I reopen FrontPage, open the
file there are many more entries.

I have found no occurrence of this in any of my other
sites that I maintain.

Mike,
Not that I know of. I have restricted my sites to some
javascript stuff, but that is the extent of it. This
particular site was inherited from another developer back
in 1997.

Have you tried the usual repairs
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) In Windows Explorer Find and delete the file CMDUI.PRF
4) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
5) Run a Repair / Reinstall on FP & IE
6) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, and MS Office

Especially #2

I have now done all of what you have suggested, except:
#4 I have no FP addins that I am aware of.
#6 All Win XP Pro critical updates are downloaded
automatically. I have just checked and there are no
updates available for Office 2003.

I see the scores of basefont tags
- looks like it's only on your home page
And I don't see anything in the page that could be generating them

When you remove them in Html/Code view and save the page in that view do they return?

If so, close FP and in Windows Explorer in the root folder in _vti_cnf delete your FP home page configuration file, then the *.web
files again, reopen FP and run a Tools Recalculate hyperlinks and open your home page to see if you can delete them

Actually there is one critical patch for MSO 2003 (don't think it is germane to your problem)
- you may have installed it when you installed MSO 2003

I have done all that you have suggested except: What does

By the way, this also occurs on the Accommodations page.
