Autoformatting

The 'preserve styles' autoformat option retains the styles you have already
applied in your document
 
Thanks for the response mexc but I'm still not clear. Does it mean that
regardless of any autoformatting Word performs, it will not change a style? I
guess I'm not clear about why I would need to instruct Word to preserve my
styles.
