autoformat question - numbers at end of sentences and caps

When typing numbers next sentence will not auto cap first work of sentence.
Is this is a glitch or some setting that I need to change?

It's a glitch.

People using numbered lists didn't want the list items to be
capitalized. When MS implemented that, they messed up and made it work
across the board, not just in numbered lists.

Sorry, you'll have to hit the shift key.
