AutoFilter unavailable?

I have never seen this before. I cannot select autofilter because it is
greyed out. What is the problem here?
 
The most likely cause would be that the worksheet has been Protected. Try
Unprotecting the sheet. (TOOLS-->PROTECTION-->"Unprotect Sheet")
