Autofilter not showing all data

A

Andy

Hi, I am using Excel XP (2002) and have a created a very
simple Spreadsheet over time. The first column shows the
names of songs and the second shows the artists name.
There are about 15000 rows would you believe and I am
having a problem using the autofilter on the artists
column, where as it doesn't show all the artists names, if
I add any new artists to the list they now don't appear
inthe autofilter list....

What can I do?

One easy way round is to use a helper column. Assume all your names are in Col A. Insert a
helper column so that they now all appear in Col B. then in Col A, assuming your names now start
in B2, in A2 put the following formula:-

=LEFT(B2) and copy down.

Now put Autofilter on Both Cols A & B and any others you want.

First filter on Col A which will give you a list of the alphabet, and simply select the letter it
starts with, and then choose the actual name by clicking on the dropdown on Col B. Touch and go
with 15,000, but may well capture them all - You would need to check.

*If* you know the name of the artist that you're looking to filter on, it's
really quite simple to just use "Custom".

When you click on Custom, the default is "equals", and the focus is in the
window that accepts wildcards, so you don't even have to enter the entire
name to get what you're looking for.
