autocomplete on combo box

I have a combox box for a long list of names. I'd like to
be able to type the first letter of a name and
automatically go to that part of the list. I don't know
whether the
autocomplete works on the combo box . And maybe what I
want is really not even autocomplete. I have autocomplete
on for the whole worksheet. Here is what happens - if I
position the combo box in a particular cell (say
A5), and I tab to that cell and start to type, I am just
typing in A5. I am not typing in the combo box. Does
that make sense. How do I 'tie' the combo box to the
cell? The 'cell link' field doesn't seem to tie it to the
combo box and cell together.

Try the combobox from the controltoolbox toolbar. (It kind of sounds like you
used the dropdown from the Forms toolbar.)

Click on the design mode icon on that control toolbox toolbar, then right click
on the combobox. You'll see a spot to assign the range (type the address in the
listfillrange). Type the linkedcell address in the .linkedcell property. And
look at the .matchentry property, too.

Aaron,

what you are trying to achieve sounds like data validation not having a
combo box floating over the sheet.
