Hello everybody.

I have a strange problem with my machine (Windows XP
Professional). When I try to manually perform a CHKDSK /F
of the C: disk I am asked if I want to schedule it to run
at the next restart. So far so good: I click yes and
restart, but nothing happens.

I checked the
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\BootExecute" registry entry, it contains the proper
commands (i.e. "autocheck autochk /p \??\C:"), but it seems
to be completely ignored. It is so thoroughly ignored that
after a restart the line is still there.

Running CHKDSK from a recovery console works, though.

I have no idea: other people seem to have the opposite
problem, that is CHKDSK running at every reboot. I can't
find any mention of anything like what I'm experiencing.

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me.

Regards,
Roberto

Yes - I have the same problem - Win XP Pro - I can chkdsk my other drives
but not my C:\ drive.

Glad to know I am not alone on this one - I just reformatted (for various
reasons) and after installing nothing but latest updates to XP, the
inability to chkdsk the C:\ drive occurs.

Yeah, me too, blooming annoying because I can't run my
boot time defrag untill chkdsk can fix certain errors,
whatever they are.
I know one thing isn't quite right, it's something to do
with the fact that there is a big difference between the
size of what's on the disc and the size of area that its
taking up.

I have the same problem as well, I actually phoned Microsoft on this
one and not having NAV 2004 load automatically on startup fixed it.
But I recently reinstalled and now I can't chkdsk C drive and the NAV
trick no longer works. Only way I can chkdsk is from recovery
console...
