auto update date saved

OK I now have the SaveDate in my document but how do I get it to
automatically update when I save the document? Yes I can right-click on the
field and update the date but I want it to automatically update when I save
the document. If I cannot do it with the SaveDate is there another field I
can insert that will get updated when it is saved. I'm attempting to use it
for version control.

It's not the field itself that determines when it's updated. A
field-update must be triggered (manually by you, or by Word).

If you place the field in the header/footer area and work anywhere but
Normal view, it should update by itself.

Else, switch to PrintPreview and back, this should take care about it as
well.

You could trap the Save and SaveAs commands with a little macro and add
the a fields-update (either by going through all stories and update all
fields, not too trivial IIRC, or by issuing a switch in views and back).
