In Word 2007, some of my auto text entries not work that have quotes in the
abbreviated word, and then when auto text does work, I get straight quotes.
How can I make my quotes know eachother again??

I'm not sure what "quotes in the abbreviated word" means. Do you use
quotation marks as part of your "short word" that you key in before pressing
F3 (to insert an AutoText)?? If so, I'd change the short word to something
else without the quotation marks.

Do you have your AutoCorrect Options set to _automatically_ replace straight
quotes with "smart" quotes?? Pizza button/Word options/Proofing/AutoCorrect
Options/AutoCorrect window/AutoFormat As You Type tab, under "Replace as you
type," check the box next to "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes". Then,
when you block/select any text and add it to your AutoText library, if the
quotation marks in that blocked/selected text are already smart quotes, they
should appear in your document as smart quotes when you insert them as
AutoText.

I was referring to the short word (auto text) and it does not contain quotes.
i.e. tceq1 turns out to be Texas Commission on Environmental Quality
("TCEQ") with straight quotes. And my AutoCorrect Options are set to
automatically replace straight quotes with smart quotes. So I've been
globally replacing all "s and 's in all my documents with " and ', then my
quotes are right. Thank you so much.

I don't see any reason why your AutoText entry shouldn't include the right
kind of quotes; you may just need to recreate it correctly. But perhaps you
would be happier using a formatted AutoCorrect entry instead. You could
still use tceq1 as the text to be replaced, and it would be automatic
(wouldn't require pressing F3).
