If I have a worksheet with the following info 1 2 3 4

200 80
180 500

and I give the the following info
90
490
180
201
can I get a formula to lookup the value closely to number mentioned, from
the list and enter under the number (eg 200 = 201)

Your list, be it horizontal or vertical, must be sorted in ascending order,
then either the HLOOKUP or the VLOOKUP formulas using the "TRUE" option at
the end will return the number just lower than the criteria.....
