Windows Mail automatically brings up the next message in the message list
when I delete a message being viewed. This "feature" is hugely annoying. I
do not want to use pane viewing - prefer to call up one full-view message at
a time. But when I delete the message I am reading, I don't want Windows to
automatically bring up the next message. How do I stop this "feature?"

Don't delete the message from its own window.
Close the message window, then delete it from the message list.
You may also want to turn off the preview pane.

Gary, I appreciate your effort in helping others.
One point though: you are not answering the question ("how can I get back to
the inbox -or folder- withoutopeneng the next email") but instead you give a
work around ("close window and delete then"). This is not what people are
looking for.

I guess this feature ("go back to folder without opening the next email")
does not exist in WIndows Mail. People know it from Outrlook where this is an
option you can turn on.

So the answer to the question would be: it isn't possible."

Or is it?
regards

If that option existed in Windows Mail, I would have told you about it.
Quite a few Outlook features don't exist in Windows Mail.
