Auto run backups, virus scan etc

I am running Windows 2000 Pro on a home (peer to peer) network. I have 4 different users that each have their unique log on settings. I want to be able to set the computer up to run backups and virus scan at night during idle time. The only way I have found to do that is to set up scheduler on my log on and leave me logged in all night.

Is there a way to auto log off all users after x number of minutes idle time, then have the computer log back in as the designated “back up userâ€, perform the backups and virus scans, then log out

Create an account with appropriate access permissions, then use the Task
Scheduler to schedule your backup & scanning task, making sure to run the
job under the newly created account.

But if some other user (or no user) is logged on, will Task Manager will not be active. Will it?

I assume you're talking about the Task Scheduler, not the Task Manager. The
Task Scheduler is always active - it is a service. The tasks it runs are
completely independent from any foreground session.
