Auto Resize columns

HI
I have made an "Extended Trial Balance" sheet.
I also want my friends to use it so I have locked the cells where the
formulas are and protected the sheet.

1) The problem is when the figures are more than 7. it changes into #######
and it is not possible to resize the columns while the sheet is protected.
Is there anyway to make it auto resizeable.

2) Also I want to apply a formula to cells (B3:B20).
When a user write anything let say in B3 a question should pop up to ask "Is
this Entry related to Balance Sheet?" Yes or NO.
If Yes then A3=B "Letter B in A3" if no than nothing.

Thanks

1. Make the columns wide enough before you protect it.

2. You should use a column, maybe C, where the user puts the information re
whether it's related to the balance sheet, and your formula in A3 should
reference that cell.

Hi Myrna.
Thanks for input.
I did not want to make the cells bigger as normally the biggest entries we
get are 5 figures long just once in while one gets 8 figures. and also
wanted to keep the sheet on one page.
anyway

For 2) I already have put a comment in B3 to put letter B in A3 if the entry
is related to BS.
Just couldn't be bothered :) to put comments in every Cell. B3:B20.

I guess your desired have, then, locked you into displaying ##### when the
column isn't wide enough. As for keeping the sheet on one page, are you
familiar with the the "Fit to x pages wide" setting under File/Page Setup.

As far as "not being bothered", you can copy and paste the comment. You can
also use Data/Validation to pop up a message when entering data in column B.

Maybe you could format the cell nicer:

Format|cells|Alignment tab|
Check Shrink to fit
