Auto numbering

Question, I have many tables that use the auto number feature to assign
unique IDs to entries. My tables are split from my forms and reports and the
table mdb is hidden. Access to the tables file has been set to read and write
no modifications. So here is my question, WHY would my auto number field in
every table change from incremental to random?
 
If you've ever attempted to use Access Replication or the Windows Briefcase
it changes autonumbers to random.
