Auto numbering down

Daniel

Hi

I have Excel 2007.
I have may spreadsheets each with many thousands of rows, I need to number
each row
in an inserted column.

How do I do that automatically, dragging the fill handle takes so long.

Thanks

Daniel

One way is to put a formula in the column, copy/paste down, then copy/paste
special | values the whole column. For example, if you want numbers in
column A, enter "1" in cell A1, then enter "=A1+1" in cell A2 and hit ENTER.
Click on cell A2 and copy. Select cell A3, use the scroll bar to move to the
bottom of the spreadsheet, hold down the SHIFT key while selecting the last
cell in column A, then paste. Now select the entire column A, copy, paste
special | values.

I don't use XL07 but this procedure should work for all versions.
I'm assuming XL07 still has a "name box".

Say your starting cell is A15.

Enter your starting value ( 1 or 100 or whatever)

Click back in A15 to select it.

Click in the "name box" and enter the ending cell, say A2500.

Hold <Shift> and hit <Enter>.

This selects the entire range your interested in, with A15 the cell in
focus.

From the Home tab, in the Editing group,
Click "fill",
Click "series", <Enter>,
And you should be done.
