Auto-Lettering

my problem is when using the auto-numbering tool the space between the
auto-letter and the words changes for some entries

such as

kk) s
ll) s
mm) s
nn) s
oo) s

it dosent do this for every entry just some, and it seems to be automatic

What you've illustrated is an alignment issue. The numbering uses left
alignment by default so the more characters the further to the right they
extend causing the effect you describe.

One option: Select your list then go to Format> Bullets & Numbering, click
the Customize button & set the Number Position to Right instead of Left.

[This assumes you're using Word 2003 or prior.]
