Auto-hide

I have always used the auto-hide feature for the taskbar at the bottom of
the screen and whenever I put my mouse down at the bottom the taskbar would
appear, weather I was on the 'desktop' or in a web page. But for some reason
it won't appear now unless I'm actually on the desktop with any other page
minimized. Anybody know why?

Did you try disabling the auto-hide feature to see if it shows up, then re-enabling it?

Isn't auto-hide a cool feature? To bring the taskbar back, the mouse
pointer needs to contact that thin, barely perceptible line at the
bottom of your screen. If it doesn't, no taskbar.

The easy way to do this is to drag your mouse off the screen.

There you go again, treating someone like an idiot. toneywho clearly stated that he's been using AutoHide for a long time, so your
"advice" doesn't help one wit.

If you can't say anything nice (or useful), it's better to say nothing at all.

What's probably happened is that the taskbar is no longer set to be always-on-top. Therefore, when any windows are open, the
taskbar is hidden behind them, so you can't recover it. When they are all minimized, the taskbar's edge is visible, and it works.

Run the "Taskbar and Start menu" Control Panel applet and make sure that "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" is checked.

if you are by chance using IE7 and FULL SCREEN (f11) mode, this is a NEW FIX from ms.

otherwise, using propeties of the taskbar, uncheck the auto hide option, APPLY, then check it again and again APPLY.

jave you run a full virus/trojan scan recently.
