Auto-Format Cell Shading

How do I cause a cell's shading color on one worksheet to automatically
reflect the same color as a specific cell on another worksheet within the
same workbook? I want the shading color only, no data.

The objective is an "at-a-glance" status report worksheet so that we do not
need to flip between worksheets to find the status of publication updates
distributed to all personnel.

You can't do that with any built-in feature in Excel.

If the color coding in the specific cell is based on a condition, you can
apply conditonal formatting.

You can also write a vba macro to do the formatting.

We would need to know more about your data layout and the "specific cell" to
give you more details. Why would the color in that cell change, in other
words the condition for the cell color (and what possible colors can the cell
take for what condtions).

This is a very simple spreadsheet with no formulae. It is being used to
track revision status for publications that receive updates at random times
throughout the year. The layout is essentially a name with revision numbers
and effective date being a double header to each column:

Effective Date 1/6/09 1/30/09 4/21/09
Doe, John X X
Smith, Snuffy X
Aircraft # 670 X X X

An X is currently used to indicate that person has signed for their revision
(what is used to mark is arbitrary, 1's could be used if we were using a
formula) and I'm manually coloring the cell containing the name to indicate
fully up to date, or one-or-more changes behind.

Once I color that cell, I want that shading reflected on a cell next to
their name on a "status" sheet so that command can see the status of
personnel and aircraft publication revisions. Alternately, we could make the
name cell on the status sheet reflect the color but currently those cells
reflect a coding showing what unit those personnel and aircraft are assigned
to.

I am open to any alternative ideas how to achieve the goal and save me
having to manually color every cell on the status page.
