Auto Filter not finding all values

N

Nancy Kay

I have a 6,000-row spreadsheet with a "CPT Code" in column E of each
row. The codes can be all numbers, a combination of numbers and
letters, or blank. I have the column defined as "text" during an
import of the data.

When I choose the first data cell in column E, and select auto-filter,
the little drop-down arrow appears, and I scan through the sequential
values looking for 38220. It's not in the list. If I do a "find" on
column E for 38220, it finds it. If I sort the data by column E and
then do the filter routine, it works, and 38220 is in my filter list.

Help ??

Thanks in advance,

Nancy

Unfortunately the drop down list is limited in the number of values i
can show.
If you can use a filter in another column to reduce the amount of dat
in column E it will then appea

Hi Nancy,
In addition to what Alex and Ron mentioned, one other item
to consider is whether the data has changed since the
autofilter was defined. Often time data will be added
below a range that was part of an autofilter datarange,
and the autofilter cannot find the newly appended data.
Try to turn off the autofilter, and turn it on again. But
they are correct that only the first 1000 items are
recognized in the drop down list without performing some
kind of workaround. You will find Debra's sight most
helpful.
