Auto Filter gets stuck

Please can anyone tell me what to do when I am happily using my excel
autofilter, then suddenly it gets stuck, and the only way to unstick
it seems to be to physically unhide all the rows, remove the filter
then reapply it?

Many thanks.

I'm not sure what stuck means.

But if you mean it slows down while calculating, I'll sometimes interrupt the
calculation by hitting the escape key, then Data|Filter|showall. Excel recalcs
a lot faster when the autofilter isn't hiding stuff.

If you meant that the autofilter arrows won't work, then I'm not sure if this'll
help, but I'd try data|filter|showall, first.

Laura,
I have the same problem. Very frustrating!! Dave - the showall won't even appear on the drop down when the freeze occurs. Any other suggestions?

Can you turn calculation to manual (a pain) to see if that helps?

Don't use this if any of your calcuations depend on the filter being on (like
=subtotal()).

It sure looks like excel will recalc faster when all the rows are shown. So if
I know my formulas won't change, I'll just leave calculation set to manual (or
even hit escape to interrupt calculation).

If I do data|Filter|showall, I can recalc then.
