Auto filter and data validation

Hi I am wondering if it is possible to link an auto filter to a data
validation list so that the column of data with the auto filter can be hidden
and the selection of the autofilter is driven by what is chosen in the data
validation list cell,

You could use an Advanced Filter in combination with a data validation
list. There's a sample file here:

Under Filters, look for 'Filter for Date Range'
