Auto FE Updater?

I wasn't a hundred percent sure where to post this question, so I gave this
newsgroup a shot. Hopefully it gets answered (Hopefully by Tony Toews
himself). I'm using the Auto FE Updater created by Tony Toews, and I've run
into a problem. Everything works out perfectly, but only once. I have a
locked database with several users. And I used the security utility added by
Mr. Toews, and put in my password (Administrator) in the INI file. When
someone runs it the first time, the FE is copied and the necessary links are
made. But when the user clicks on the new shortcut for a second time they
get a "Type mismatch" error followed by:

The MDW account name and password in the INI file weren't valid for opening
the MDB to determine the version of the MDB.

You can re-enter the MDWPassword entry in the INI file and replace
'(Password is encrypted)' with the password. This utility will
automatically update the MDWPasswordEncrypted entry with the new encrypted
password.

I go in and change the password, then the user can get in. But once again,
if the user tries the shortcut for a second time, the same error occurs. Any
ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Neil Cash

FWIW email works quite well too.

Weird. I don't have a clue. Can you email me your INI file, with
the encrypted password, directly to tony at granite dot ab dot ca?
Does your password have any special characters or anything else
unusual that you can think off.

Hmm, I suspect I will be able to view your encrypted password.
However clearly I don't have physical access to your network so that
shouldn't be a problem.

What happens if the same user exits and goes back in a second time?
Does it work for them?

First off, I'd like to thank you for getting back to me on this post and for
creating such a clever utility. I've got the utitlity working every time
now, and it was weird how I got it to do that. I'm the creator of the
database, and when I tried my password, it would only work once. Then it
would encrypt it and wouldn't recognize the password when you opened it a
second time. But I tried one of the admins' passwords, and it works fine.
It seems like it shouldn't matter that I was the creator, but I'm not
complaining, it works just as advertised.

Many Thanks

Thanks for your comments. They make the effort worth while.

BTW keep checking back every month or two. I've got some interesting
ideas.

Now that doesn't make any sense. All I can think of is a weird
problem with the password where it wouldn't encrypt it properly and
save it in the INI file.

Are there any special characters in that password? I don't know what
else the problem could be.

That's great, I'll be sure to keep an eye out. Yea, I thought the password
encryption was weird too. The password was just a six digit number, I can't
imagine that it would affect anything. But then again, the password for the
other admin consisted soley of letters. It may have played a factor....

Thanks, that should be enough of a hint to do some testing in the near
future.

If you email me separately I'll let you know once (or if <smile>) I
find the problem.
