every time I close the dbase, I get an automatic copy of the structure - db
1, db 2 etc. if I delete them they just start over numbering from one on
again. I've been all over in tools/options/customize and I can't find where
to shut this auto back-up off - please help

I'm guessing your have compact on close enabled in the options... when it
compacts it creates a new DB and copies the old one over to it....

It sounds like though that you do not have permissions on the folder to
delete the temp files that are created

Check the folder permissions

if your database is too stupid that it can't stop making copies of
itself?

then find someone on CraigsList to move to SQL Server for you

JET is an obsolete database.
JET / DAO hasn't been included by default with MDAC or MS Office for
the past decade.

anyone using JET for anyone reason should be sued because JET is WIDE
OPEN to identity thieves.
It's impossible to secure!!!???!!!

Now WTF why would you use a piece of shit database that is impossible
to secure?
Do you understand the legal liability that you are under?

I mean-- you're keeping the data for YOUR COMPANY in a format that is
impossible to secure?

Did you graduate high school?

Access sounds to me like it is too buggy for reliable usage.
Honestly.

I'd move to SQL Server.

Access is a very good product and is not buggy but like all things needs
properly configuring, coding a testing.

Access _IS_ a very good product.

but the database _SUCKS_ and you all know it.
Forms and Reports-- Macros, Modules-- those are fun.. _YAY_.

But JET?
Linked tables?
Dealing with SQL Passthrough?

Using DAO?

It's all just a load of junk.
