Auto Complete fails to work in Internet Explorer 6.0 Windows XP

I am having troubles with auto complete user name and password for a web
page. For other pages it works fine and on other computers I can use it. I
may have ticked the don't remember box once and now I can't get it to work on
that particular page. I have Clicked under Tools/Options/Content and tried
deleteing all old ones. Is there a registry some where in Windows that I can
try and empty?

Hi Simon :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Protected Storage - Save Password, AutoComplete issues
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ProtectedStorage.htm

AutoComplete, Web Addresses:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System
Provider\<user name or windows logon name>

also....

To get IE to prompt to save passwords.

Clearing all passwords should work to reset the "Save Password" option for
that site.
IE> Tools> Options> Content> Autocomplete> Clear Passwords.
Protected Storage PassView from
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pspv.html
will help you recover other cached passwords *before* you clear all
passwords.
----------------------------------------------

or...

I said "no" to remembering a password. How do I make Internet Explorer ask
again

For password prompt from IE,

Go to Tools>Interet Options>Content>Autocomplete
Turn on the option to remember passwords.

1 Visit the specific site
2 When your name/handle appears in the pull down, DELETE IT.
3 Close that page.
4 Then click Tools>Internet Options>General tab>History>cear History.
5 Visit that specific site again
6 Enter handle/name as long as it doesn't appear in the pull down.
7 Choose yes to save the new Password

Hope this helps.

Tried these things as best I could still doen't work. Mystery. Thanks for

Try the following to fully clean the History, then try them again and see if
that helps:

CCleaner

or

Hope this helps.

When I try to clear the previously visited addresess from my adress bar by
going to Internet Options via the control panel to (1) delete cookies & files

Hi Dogman5 :)

"especially a URL beginning with "w"?" Please post the link for this site.

Try the following and see if it helps:

Clear History of Typed URL's
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/typedurls.reg

Deleting History and Typed URLs in Internet Explorer
http://www.wbaudisch.de/DeletingHistory.htm

NOTE: Be sure that ALL instances of IE6 are CLOSED before you do
the install of this (these) .inf files. Otherwise the "old" entries will
just be re-written back to the Registry when you close IE.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm
will delete the History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will
be created when
you restart.

also....

CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/
should be able to clear the History and the index.dat file.
Just check the appropriate boxes and run it

Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Hope this helps.
