I am unable to log onto a web site. It is the college
Library Online Database. The Library has verified that
my ID is valid. My service provider, Road Runner (TIME
WARNER CABLE) assures me I have a problem with the IE
Browser. I set Security and Privacy to the lowest
setting and I still get the following message:

Authentication Failed: Invalid Referring URL

Please contact me at (e-mail address removed) if you have
any ideas about what I need to do to fix this problem.

Thank you for your time.

The error pretty much says it all -- part of the server validation is the
referring URL. That is, you have to have come from a specific URL or
URLs...in addition to having a valid logon ID.

Either you are going there from a bookmark/Favorite (thus no referer data),
or something is blocking the sending of referer data from your browser -- a
proxy server or privacy software would be the prime suspects. For example,
Junkbuster and Proxomitron both allow changing or blanking the referring URL.
