Attempting to write files to CD

Using XP Home. I am trying to write a set of files to the CDRW for the first
time. Everything goes ok until I get to the burn command. At which point I
receive the following:
"Insert a writable disc to continue."

And... "The disc in the drive is not a writable CD or it is full".

Can't be full because I just pulled it out of the package.

? Suggestions?

Be sure you bought writeable disks,
Others are Read Only.

You might look into the CD-RW disks, (Read - Write)
They should already be formatted.

Nonsense. There is no need to format a CD. The burning program handles that.

It would help if we knew what program you are using to
write your files to the disk. Different programs do things
in different ways. Some require a UDF before being written
too even though one of the other posters says this isn't
so he hasn't a clue what he's talking about. Some programs
do this as an automatic feature some require you to check
this off in the options before proceeding. Tell us the
program and we can tell you the steps. Good luck.
