Tried it Steve but it returns " Command failed to execute".
Like before, either they won't open or one attachment will open and the
other will not.

Confussed???

Yeah, 'cause I have no idea what you are talking about since you didn't
include any reference in the reply.

Sorry, I thought you were covering the attachment problem that I am having.
It seems to be the same problem that tons of other people are having w/ Mail.
Attachments opened at first and now Don't! Tried all the suggestions todate.
No Luck! Any other ideas? Can I DL Outlook and run with that with Vista
Ultimate? If so steps?

Unfortunately, given its all new, there are some problems that don't have a
clear resolution as of yet.

I can appreciate that but I need my attachments. ( Private Eye). Is there a
way to use outlook or express? I will go buy it if needed!!!

Thanks for your help

You can use Outlook 2003 or later in Vista but not Outlook Express.

That's the idea, they want you to go buy another program, its cheaper to go
back to Windows XP

What is the best way to uninstall Vista and go back to Windows XP and OUtlook
Express, and get my life back

Format the partition and reinstall WinXP.

I wonder if the problem isn't in Vista and not Mail. I forward a message
with a .wmv attachment to Thunderbird and all I got was the audio. To work
around this I save video attachments to the hard drive, open Windows Media
Player and then open the file. Works fine although a PITA.

May I humbly add my thoughts to those below. I have owned a brand new laptop
with Vista for one whole week now and if I was anywhere near a recycling
centre I would dump the lot. Has anybody else found that not only can you not
open attachments in the crappy windows mail, but that Hotmail cannot be used.
I think what somebody suggested is the answer: get rid of Vista and load XP.
My main question is why should we have to search for solutions to problems
which Microsoft should have ironed out before releasing Vista. As if they are
not making enough money we are all now required to buy new "compatible"
software.

-- Is there someone we can talk to about this problem? I can not function
without opening attachments. I teach online and have to open attachments
daily. I have a new computer (well, 3 months old), have Vista on it and had
no problems with email attachments until yesterday. It suddenly stopped
letting me open or save.

If you used to be able to open attachments with Windows Mail,
but now you can't, I would suspect interference from your antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

to be honest with ya christine, im about fed up with microsoft FORCING their
B/S operating system aka: VISTA down our throats. We are their gunnie pigs.
the best thing in my opinion is to get rid of Vista and go back to a PROVEN
O.S. like XP. I personally dont understand why they keep forcing things on us
when we spend our hard earned $$ for a computer that we can use, only to find
out that there is no option. either use what THEY tell us to, or go spend
MORE $$ to get XP back. Im about ready to sell my laptop and buy a Mac just
to get away from vista.
