Attachments sent in Outlook to Hotmail recipients are garbled

When I attach Word documents to e-mails composed and sent from Outlook 2003,
some recipients receive only a garbled version. Hotmail particularly seems
to be a problem. What do I do?
 
What format of email are you sending? Make sure it's either Plain Text or
HTML but not Rich Text format
